Fishing area

The fishing area stretches from the upper limit in Hertingforsen to the lower limit in Hålan and is divided into 3 sections:

Hertingforsen - fly-fishing section in the old recreated channel past the power station

Salmon Bridge - Toll Bridge. Classic fly and spin fishing water divided into 8 pools

Hålan – popular for fishing for trout, but also angling with the children for flounder or chub.

Fishing times

The fishing season for salmon and sea trout extends from April 1 to September 30 and fishing is permitted from 5am to 2am. The fishing lodge normally open 05.00-20.00.

Fishing license

To fish in Falkenberg's salmon fishing waters, you need a fishing license. The number of cards for sale for fishing in Hertingforsen is limited and the number can also generally change during the season. Season tickets can only be purchased at Falkenberg's tourist information.

Free fishing applies to children up to and including 14 years of age. Young people aged 15-18 fish at a discounted price.

Fishing method

Only fishing with spinning-fly rod and traditional shrimp bait is allowed. Only one rod per person. Rules for which fishing methods are allowed for each stretch can be found below under the heading Pools. Fishing with live bait fish is not permitted, nor is it permitted to use artificial baits with fragrances. A maximum of 2 hooks may be used (one, two or three hooks). Jerk fishing is prohibited according to Swedish law. Intentionally or unintentionally mishooked fish hooked in places other than the mouth and throat must be unhooked with the utmost care and immediately re-released.

Fly fishing

Fly fishing means fishing with a fly rod, fly line, hook and fly.

Spinning fishing

Spinning fishing means fishing with a spinning or reeling rod and a multiplier or reeling reel. As bait, spoon pulls, spinners, wobblers, spinning flies, jigs and traditional fishing with shrimp are permitted. All other baits are prohibited.

Distances and Pool division

Pool division and distances are marked in the terrain with poles showing what kind of fishing is allowed. Map with pool division can be downloaded as a file at ifishke. You can also find it at falkenbergslaxfiske.se

Hertingforsen fly all season. Fishing takes place from the north side.

Laxbron only for traditional shrimp bait or other permitted bait choices. Casting is not allowed.

Pool 1 Spinn – all season (50 m downstream of Laxbron – the buoys). Wading not permitted between Laxbron and Storön

Pool 2nd Spin /fly all season (buoys - Fajansbron).

Pool 2 :b Spin/fly all season (buoys - Fajansbron).

Pool 3 Spin/fly all season (Fajansbron - Friluftsteatern).

Pool 4 Spin/fly all season. (Open-air theater – Garvareforsen).

Pool 5 Fly all season. (Garvareforsen – Sandbanken). The water flow in Ätran is regulated and extra high water levels may mean that wading is not possible. In such cases, fishing can be done from land on the north side. When "the pointed stone" is visible in the rapids, fishing must not be done from land on the north side.

Pool 6 1/6 – 31/7 fly, other time fly/spin. (Sandbank – Olympia Garden).

Pool 7 1/6 – 31/7 fly, other time fly/spin. (Olympia Garden – 50 m downstream of the Toll Bridge).

Hålan Spin/fly/fish all season. Fishing with a mask is also permitted in the cave.

Boat fishing: 50 m downstream Laxbron - Laet. Boat fishermen and other fishermen must show consideration for each other. It is also permitted to fish with your own boat in Hålan up to the underwater cable downstream of the Toll Bridge, by the pool sign. Trolling is not allowed.

Fishing from Fajansbron, Tullbron and Söderbron is prohibited.

Catch

Rules for catching and reporting are essential to protect the wild population of Atlantic salmon and trout.

Hatched salmon (besor) must be re-released throughout the season. Permitted daily catch (take-away catch) is two salmon or trout. You may release caught fish and continue your fishing until you have reached the daily quota. Keep in mind, however, that this should be done with the utmost respect and caution towards the fish. During the period 1 April-30 June, you may catch (reserved catch) a maximum of three salmon in total. Once you have caught three salmon, you must stop fishing for the rest of the time until June 30. Quotas apply to the entire Ätran water system. In the months of August and September, all caught fish over 75 cm must be released again. We also recommend that smaller females be released again during these two months and urge fishermen to be aware of high water temperatures (over 20 degrees), when you should consider completely refraining from fishing.

Minimum dimensions

Counted from the tip of the nose to the outer tip of the tail fin.

Salmon............. 45 cm

Sea trout... 45 cm

Fish that do not measure up must be released immediately.

Reporting

As a fisherman, you are obliged to report your catch, which also applies to catch that is released, hatched fish and other fish species. Catch reporting is an important tool for fisheries management. Reporting is done through the link that comes with your digital fishing license, via the fishing license number on iFiske.se or by filling in the designated form inside the salmon cabin. Please also note your catch of salmon and trout on the outside boards by the salmon cabin. Returned fish are estimated for length and recovered fish are measured and weighed at the salmon hut.

Note! special rules may apply to participation in competitions such as salmon fisherman of the year or the like. Be careful and contact a fishing host if you have caught a big catch. Check out the competition rules if you want to take part in the competition.

Supervision - general rules

Fishing license together with identification must be presented when checked by a fishing owner or supervisor. The fisher is obliged to have knowledge of current fishing regulations and to follow them. The fishing is carried out according to the "rotational principle", i.e. the fisher moves continuously downstream with frequent changes of fishing spot. One throw, one step is a good rule of thumb. If another fisherman is already fishing in the pool, you start your fishing upstream. Whoever catches a fish must leave his fishing spot and start over in the order of turn. It is not permitted to mark the fishing spot with e.g. backpacks or fishing rods. Do not "lock" fishermen on the other side with too long casts and keep an appropriate distance. As anglers, we assume that you show consideration for the environment you stay in with its nature and wildlife. Think about the damage a discarded line or hook can cause in nature. Rubbish and waste is taken home or thrown in bins set up along the river or at the salmon cabin.

Be aware and respect cyclists and pedestrians on the walks around the river.

Fishermen who violate current regulations and fishing rules or who behave in a disruptive manner to other fishermen or non-fishermen are banned from further fishing in Falkenbergs Municipality's salmon fishing waters in Ätran.

Boat fishing

Fishing by boat between Laxbron and Laet is booked at the same place where you buy the fishing license no later than one day in advance and the boat key is picked up and returned at the fishing cabin. There may only be two fishermen in each boat. Minors may not rent a boat without being accompanied by an adult.

It is possible to fish with your own boat in Hålan. For a fee, you can launch the boat at Falkenbergs Båtsällskap or Lövstaviken marina. Trolling is not allowed.
