Rules fishing for the public

A fishing license is required to fish with hand gear (rod fishing, angling, pimp, etc.) from a drifting boat or other floating vessel.
(see Fishing license for the public) Fishing may be conducted at a distance of at least 200 meters from land in the entire Skager and at a distance of at least 100 meters from the larger islands (Falebuholmen, Bergsholmarna and Gullön).

Rules for fishing license buyers

• Pike min/max dimensions, 50/75 cm
• Goose min/max size 50/70 cm
• Perch maximum size 38 cm
• A maximum of 10 Perches may be kept per fishing license per day
• A maximum of 2 pikes may be kept per fishing license per day
• A maximum of 4 Gosars may be kept per fishing license per day

All fish to be re-released must be returned to the lake regardless of condition.
If the fish is judged to be so damaged that it probably will not survive, it must be killed quickly before being released again.

Fishing license for the public
SEK 130 for day pass (1 day)
SEK 450 weekly pass (7 days)

Trolling with a maximum of 10 rods in a boat (boat in motion) (the person holding a rod while fishing must have a fishing license).
In the case of forms of fishing such as spin fishing, angling, pipe fishing, vertical fishing, etc., each person who fishes must hold a fishing license.
Rowing, electric motor or combustion engine is allowed.

Free fishing license with hand gear for young people up to 18 years of age.
The fee-free Fishing Card must comply with other rules that apply to the Skager.
Free fishing license must be redeemed at ifiske.se.

Rules for everyone (fishing right owners and fishing license buyers)

• All trout/salmon caught must be released
(does not apply to fishing rights owners in e.g. net fishing, but common sense is applied here)
• Goose fishing ban from 15 April to 15 June. This is to cover the entire play period.
(no net ban and no restocking obligation for fishing right owners, but common sense may be applied here, i.e. you should avoid net fishing during the period so that the Gösstammen reproduce optimally)
• Everyone who buys a fishing license should report their catches to iFiske and everyone who fishes with nets should report catches per season to skagernsfvof@gmail.com.
This is compiled for each annual meeting.

Net fishing or crayfish fishing is not included for the public but is reserved for the fishing right owner or lessee.
Only fishing with hand gear (including trolling) is permitted for a fishing license purchaser.

Completing a fishing license

The fishing license buyer's name must appear on the fishing license that must accompany the buyer.
Swedish place of residence or country from which the buyer comes is sufficient address information. This is to prevent transfer.
The buyer does not need to be asked for identification when buying a fishing license, this is done by the fishing inspector when checks are carried out on the lake.
The fishing license buyer decides himself from which date he wants to start his fishing. This date must be filled in on the line "Valid from..." and not left open at the time of sale.

Rules for fishing right owners

Fishing license
For fishing right owners: SEK 50/year, most easily purchased at https://www.ifiske.se/fiske-skagern.htm

Framework for the business :

a) the association's statutes and general meeting resolutions
b) the Act on Fisheries Conservation Areas (LOFO 1981:533)
c) Fishing Act (1993:787) Section 9 Fishing in individual waters belongs to the property owner

Fishing right holders are:
Owner of property with fishing rights according to the association's fishing rights list (originally researched and drawn up by the Land Survey).

Rights of the fishing right holder:

a) fishing free of charge within the entire fisheries management area.
b) fishing with hand gear and nets/nets.
c) fishing with crayfish nets at a distance of at least 1000 meters from land and 500 meters from the larger islands (Falebuholmen, Bergsholmarna and Gullön).
d) fishing with hand gear nets/nets on other waters with a distance of at least 200 meters from land and 100 meters from the larger islands (Falebuholmen, Bergsholmarna and Gullön).
e) The right to conduct fishing as above applies to the fishing right owner's spouse/cohabitant and children.
Note that fishing can be community owned, through a community association or direct management according to the Act on the Management of Communities.

Obligations of the fishing right holder

a) member who engages in fishing must issue a fishing license (applies to all fishing)
b) fishing with nets, minimum (13 turns = 46 mm pole, with the exception of seine nets), maximum 120 m per fishing right
c) tools and nets must be clearly marked with an individual designation. The designation must consist of both name, telephone number and property designation.
d) nets must be at both ends of the net and be marked with a pennant in a visible color. Distance between water surface and pennant at least 1 meter, double flag in west sector, single flag in east sector
e) holders of fishing rights are obliged to show identification and documents proving the holding of fishing rights when requested by a fishing supervisor

Basin Russians:
Not allowed to use in the Skager.

Rules for crayfish fishing (valid for the time being under fisheries conservation measures)

a) Crayfish fishing is only permitted for fishing right owners/tenants
b) Free number of tools
c) crayfish fishing season applies all year round until further notice
d) crayfish cages that have been used in other waters must be disinfected before they are used in the Skager
e) Crayfish may only be fished within fishing waters that belong to the own shift type (unshifted water) or the own property (shifted water) or at a distance of at least 1000 meters from land and 500 meters from the larger islands (Falebuholmen, Bergsholmarna and Gullön).
f) Each tool must be marked with name, telephone number and property designation, crayfish nets laid on links must be marked with nets.
Individual crayfish nests must be clearly marked with e.g. a floating ball in visible color.

The fishing area extends from downstream of the power plant in Letälven and the entire Skager down to the bridge before the power plant in Gullspång.

Rules for Lessors of fishing rights
Lease agreement must be signed. (three copies: the fishing rights owner, the lessee and the fishing area association). In joint fishing, all co-owners must agree that part of the fishing is leased out.

There are two types of lease; agricultural lease and commercial fishing lease.

Agricultural lease or commercial fishing lease. (Fishing Act §16). Commercial fishing leases are regulated by law (1957:390) on fishing leases, which has a structure similar to the provisions on agricultural leases. This law only refers to concessions for commercial fishing or "other fishing of essential importance for the lessee's livelihood".
In the case of an agricultural lease, the lessee may use the fishing right that belongs to the land if nothing else has been agreed.

• Illegal or illegal fishing is reported to the police.
In case of violation of local rules, a control fee is imposed.

Repeated violations mean an increase in the inspection fee, max. SEK 5,000.
In some cases, there may be illegal fishing, e.g. violation maximum number of fish.
If the take is greater than what is stated in the rules, the fishing license is forfeited and invalid and it is therefore illegal fishing as the fishing license buyer does not have a fishing license.
The fee must be paid within 30 days, after which the matter is passed on to debt collection.

Fisheries supervision

The task of the fisheries inspector is to prevent crimes against and control that
established fishing rules are followed. The supervisor wears a clearly visible service card.

The following rules apply to the fishing supervisor:

a) rules, list of fishing license sellers and identification are included
b) in the case of measures against illegal fishing, which means that equipment is seized, these are handed over to the police authority in Gullspång, Mariestad, Kristinehamn, Degerfors or Salmon. The board is informed
c) the sale of fishing licenses in connection with fishing supervision on the lake must not occur
