Ryggens FVOF

RFVOF was formed in 1998.

After many and long discussions between the municipalities in the area, Falun, Hedemora and Säter, a fishing rights ownership investigation was launched in the mid-90s. The National Land Survey found more than 700 fishing rights owners in the proposed area.

From the County Administrative Board's side, it was natural to ask the active, Ryggen's fisheries conservation association, for many years, about participation in planning and investigative work. The working name during the investigation also became RFVOF.

Why was the area formed?

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency had an assignment from the government to work to ensure that all waters where fishing can be practiced are accessible to the public. The assignment included dividing the country into smaller units - Fisheries Conservation Areas - via the county administrative boards - where the fishing right holders through area boards can freely decide how the fishing is to be conducted.

As a basis for statutes for the area associations are some sections formulated by the county administrative board. These paragraphs are universal throughout the country. In addition to this, the associations are given a great deal of space to decide on statutes in general. There are requirements for the area association to provide and sell fishing licenses to fishing right holders, local people and the general public. The association shall have persons who can exercise supervision over compliance with the association's decisions on the conduct of fishing.

The income from the sale of fishing licenses goes in full to improvements for the fishing industry.
