Ämmern FVO has a water area of 619.8 hectares. The lake is connected to the larger lakes Åsunden and Järnlunden via Schedewi canal. The fishery management area covers the main part of Ämmern but the water area between Schedewi farm and the northern part of Koön is not included in Ämmern FVO. Check the boundaries on the map.
Lake Ämmern consists of an approximately 10 km long deep crack in a northwest-southeast direction. The greatest measured depth is approximately 20 meters but the lake has an average depth between 4 and 10 meters.
At the southeastern part of Ämmern is Söderö bathing area. There is also a boat ramp and parking spaces here.
There is also a parking space at the lake's SW corner (highway 134) next to the Kinda municipality information board.
In the middle part of the lake there are parking spaces at the reserve parking lots at the Hamra ekhagar nature reserves (south side of the lake) and at Räckeskog nature reserve (north side of the lake).
Lake Ämmern is known for fine zander, pike and perch fishing.
