Ice fishing is absolutely fantastic, but please remember that staying and fishing on ice is at your own risk. The fisheries management area is not responsible for accidents or injuries that may occur in connection with ice fishing.
Consider the following in particular:
The thickness of the ice can vary greatly within the same water area.
Flowing water, inlets and outlets, bridges, straits, shallows, reeds and jetties pose extra risk.
Snow on the ice can hide weak areas and reduce the strength of the ice.
Mild weather, rain and sudden temperature changes can quickly weaken the ice.
Safety advice:
Always check the load-bearing capacity of the ice before going out.
Never go out alone.
Use ice cleats and keep them easily accessible.
Bring ice spikes, a rescue rope and preferably a life jacket or ice rescue suit.
Inform someone where you intend to fish and when you plan to be back.
Be extra careful early and late in the season.
In case of unsafe ice conditions, we advise against ice fishing altogether.
Take responsibility for your own safety – safe fishing is more fun fishing!
