Hästhultasjön is a fairly unaffected lake despite long human activity. The lake's surroundings are dominated by woodland. The lake has a varied bottom topography and maximum depth is approximately 11 meters. Mainly pike, perch and roach occur in the lake.

Hästhultasjön's FVOF has been fishing in Hästhultasjön, Marsåsgöl, Andersbogölen, Hundsjögöl and Helvetesgölen since its inception in 1989. The purpose of the association is to coordinate the operation of fishing and fisheries management, to promote the common interests of the owners of fishing rights, taking into account the regulations that apply to the practice of fishing, and to allow fishing.
