Abodaorten Fishing Area

Abodaorten Fishing area offers fishing in Lake Bjärssjön, Lake Kleven, Lake Kvillen, Lake Mörtesjön and part of Badebodaån. The area is located south of Högsby close to the nature reserve Aboda Klint, a mountain which rises 50 meters above the surrounding area and steeps vertically down to Lake Kleven. The area is predominantly wilderness, with only a few settlements, and is a perfect place to let go of the weekday stress and just enjoy the moment - with a fishing rod in your hand, of course!

The part of River Badebodaån, which is made available for fishing by Abodaorten Fishing Area stretches from Porsemaden furthest away upstream to just downstream Lake Bjärssjön (see map for closer details).

Lake Bjärssjön
Lake Bjärssjön is a nutrient-poor, moderately deep lake, located in the beautiful Allgunnen area around 14 kilometres south of Högsby. The bottom varies between soft bottom and segments of stone and blocks. The water vegetation is sparse with thin above-water vegetation close to the shores. The shores are mainly flat and the surroundings consist of pine forest.

The lake offers good fishing for pike and perch and is also stocked with some roach and bream. The possibilities to fish from the shores varies, but good fishing places can be found on the north side of the lake, close to the road against Kråksmåla and on capes and islets in the south part of the lake.

Fish species
Pike, perch, roach, bream, rudd and bleak.

Lake Kleven and Lake Kvillen
Lake Kleven and Lake Kvillen are two small and nutrient-poor rift-valley lakes which is connected to each other by a short channel. The lakes are located in the main stream of river Badebodaån close to Aboda Klint, around 13 kilometres south of Högsby. Lake Kleven is deep, but Kvillen is very shallow for the most part, except for a couple of deeper areas. The lakes have predominantly soft bottoms. The water vegetation is sparse in Lake Kleven, but rich in Lake Kvillen, where a border of vegetation spreads along the shoreline. The shores consist of stone and blocks, with segments of rocks, and are surrounded by coniferous forest.

The lakes have nice fishing for perch and pike and Lake Kleven also has occasional bigger pikes. The possibilities to fish from off the shore are good around Kleven, where suitable fishing spots are found close to the bathing place and on capes in the southwest part of the lake. Lake Kvillen is somewhat harder to reach from the shore, with the exception of capes on the southeast side of the lake.

Fish species
Pike, perch, roach, bream and vendace.

Allgunnen Fishing Area

Lake Allgunnen is, with its 2620 acres of water, the second largest lake of the County of Kalmar, located around 13 kilometers south of Högsby in the beautiful Allgunnen surroundings. The lake is a typical wilderness lake, known for good pike fishing, which is surrounded by coniferous forrest and almost no buildings. The lake is easily accessible, thanks to boat ramps and boats for hire.

The lake has a moderate depth and many bays and islands. The bottom consists mostly of stone and rocks. Lake Allgunnen is a nutrient-poor lake, with sparse vegetation. The shorelines are flat and like the bottom, they consist mainly of stone and rocks.

The eastern part of Lake Allgunnen is well defined and known as Lake Bruddesjön. Fishing is prohibited in the east part of Lake Bruddesjön – see below.

The possibilities to fish from off the shore are good, most of all from the western side of the lake. Still, fishing from a boat is strongly recommended. The edges to the deepest part of the lake are reliable fishing spots for pike and perch. The shallow waters around the island of Solö are good spots for perch fishing.

Fish species
Pike, perch, pikeperch, roach, bream, white bream, rudd, bleak, tench, vendace and burbot.

Fishing licenses

Ice angling (see above) is included in the one-year license and family license. Trolling is allowed with a maximum of one rod/person. Net fishing for pikeperch is forbidden 1/5-15/6. Badebodaån/Kvarnsjön Fishing Area

Downstream of Kiasjön Fishing Area, from Badeboaån west of Grönskåra, Badebodaån/Kvarnsjön fishing area takes over. This area offers great surfaces to discover for the canoe enthusiast. By starting in Badebodaån or Kvarnsjön it is easy to paddle through the tightly linked Lake Boasjön, Lake Öasjön and Lake Yttran. Equipped with your fishing rod, of course, so you can try the areas which attract you. The fishing area also offers, outside Badebodaån’s main stream, fishing in Lake Grytsjön, Lake Sävsjön and Lake Skiresjö.

The lakes in the fishing area are generally nutrient-poor and surrounded by coniferous forest. The small amount of settlements gives a feeling of wilderness while you paddle downstream.

The fishing area is described going downstream.

River Badebodaån
The part of River Badebodaån made available for fishing by Badebodaån/Kvarnsjön Fishing Area stretches from the municipality border between Högsby and Uppvidinge west from Grönskåra to just downstream of Skoga (a few kilometres downstream of Lake Yttran). The river is in average 10 metres wide in this section and generally between 1 and 4 metres deep. A suitable place to launch your canoe into the water is found in Grönskåra, where road 125 passes the river (see map).

Fish species
Pike, perch, roach, bream, bleak and burbot.

Lake Kvarnsjön
The trip goes on to Lake Kvarnsjön, where you can find a suitable place for launching your canoe or boat on the western side of the lake (see map). The shallow lake offers nice fishing for big pike and perch with good average size. Furthermore, there are possibilities to catch big bream. River Badebodaån’s inlet and the area outside from Sjömaden on the western side of the lake are good places for fishing.

Fish species
Pike, perch, pikeperch, roach, bream, bleak and burbot.

Lake Boasjön
Downstream of Lake Kvarnsjön, you continue to paddle another half kilometre on River Badebodaån before you reach the deeper Lake Boasjön, with a maximum depth of nearly 13 meters and an average depth around 4 meters.

The Lake is 108 acres wide and the possibilities to fish from off the shore are generally good in absence of a canoe or boat. Suitable fishing spots are found on rocks on east and south sides of the lake. From a boat, there is good fishing places close to the inlet and outlet of River Badebodaån. Fishing for pikeperch is recommended in the deeper area of the lake, see depth map.

Fish species
Pike, perch, pikeperch, bream and burbot.

Lake Öasjön and Lake Yttran

The two oblong Lakes Öasjön and Yttran follows downstream of Boasjön. Land fishing possibilities are also good in these lakes. Suitable places are found on rocks at the north-west and south-east side of Öasjön and on capes and rocks in the middle part of Yttran. From off a boat or canoe fishing is good around the islands and close to the inlet and outlet of River Badebodaån. A good place to launch your canoe or boat can be found close to River Badebodaån’s outlet on the east side of Lake Öasjön (see map).

Fish species
Pike, perch, pikeperch, roach, bream, bleak and burbot.

Lake Grytsjön, Lake Skiresjö and Lake Sävsjön
These three lakes are also included in the Fishing Area. Lake Grytsjön and Lake Sävsjön are located south from Boasjön and Lake Skiresjö north of Öasjön. The possibilities to fish from the shore varies. Good fishing places can be found on the rocks lining the lakes. All of the three lakes offer good fishing for pike and perch, but the best pike fishing is found in lake Grytsjön, known for its big pike. A boat ramp is located in the south-west part of Lake Grytsjön (see map).

Fish species
Pike, perch, roach, tench (only Lake Grytsjön), bream and burbot.

Minimum size for pikeperch is 40 centimetres.

Handbörd Fishing Area

River Emån is a high-class angling water. The river is rich in fish and offers good angling for perch, bream, tench and roach. Especially the tench and bream grow big in the river. It is possible to find chub of nice sizes in the faster currents by angling with floating bread. Spin fishing for Emån’s big pike is also an exciting challenge. The part of Emån which is made available for fishing by Handbörd Fishing Area stretches from the water power plant in Högsby to the border between the municipalities of Hultsfred and Högsby, just north of Trånshult.

The majority of the surroundings consists of fertile grounds, rich in culture and beautiful surroundings mostly consisting of acres and pastures with thin populations of deciduous in certain places. The part of the river included in Handbörd Fishing Area measures 15 kilometres and is dominated by slow-flowing currents with segments of faster currents. The bottom is mostly soft, with the exceptions of the faster currents, where the bottom consists of stone or blocks. The water vegetation is generally sparse with moderate occurrences of water vegetation in the more slow-flowing parts.

The possibilities to fish from the shore are generally fine. Good and useful places are found along the east side of the river, from Blankaström downstream to Högsby. Close to Ryngen in the upper part of this section of River Emån is a big marsh which doesn’t work out well for off-shore fishing.

For off-shore fishing on the west side from Dalby to Blankaström Power Station, permission from the land owner is required for fishing. But fishing from a boat or canoe is allowed in this section of the river without any permission.

Do not tread on acres with growing crops and be careful with fences. Park your car in a way which doesn’t create problems for the farmers or other traffic.

If you make your way downstream through the fishing area, you will encounter the following waters:

Lake Feresjön
The lake is small (80 acres), deep and nutrient poor, located 3 kilometers west from Fagerhult. The bottom of the lake is soft for the most part, with segments of stones and blocks. The water vegetation is sparse and you find it mostly in the north-western bay of the lake, known as Svalget. The shores of Lake Feresjön vary between firm and mossy. The surroundings consist of mixed deciduous and coniferous forest and pastures.

Pine forests are dominating the surroundings and give you a feeling of wilderness.

You are allowed to fish on a total of 8 kilometres of the river. In this part the river is around 10 meters wide and the depth varies between 1 and 4 meters. Pike and perch fishing is good and suitable fishing spots from the shore are for example found upstream of the inlet to Lake Kiasjön and in the pools downstream of Björkshult.

Tämmen Fishing Area

Fishing for pike is at its best between May and the middle of June. Later during the summer, pikes can be harder to catch. Angling for perch, roach, bream and tench is good from late spring to early autumn. The part of the lake close to Djuphult, Stenbrohult and Grönskåra is flat, with a average depth of only 1,5 - 2 meters and the bottom is muddy. The part located close to Tämshult and Flatehult is a lot deeper, down to around 8 meters, and has a stonier bottom.

The fishing area management association put pikeperch fry in Lake Tämmen in 2005, but the results from this are uncertain so far.

Älmten/Broasjön Fishing Area

The two small and shallow lakes Lake Älmten and Lake Broasjön are included in the Fishing Area. Lake Älmten, 110 acres in size, is the bigger of the two and is inhabited with a rich population of pike and relatively big tench. The lakes are located east from Fagerhult.

Lake Älmten
The lake is a moderately nutrient-rich lake, located around 3 kilometres east from Fagerhult. The lake is mostly shallow with bottom varying between sand, stone, block and mud. The water vegetation is moderate, but in certain parts of the lake, close to the shore, above-water vegetation literally creates a screen between the water and the mainland. The shores are fixed and often consist of blocks, with segments of rocks in the north-east part of the lake. Lake Älmten is surrounded by coniferous forest.

The possibilities to fish from land are varying. Suitable fishing spots are found especially close to the road and on the rocks on the north-east side of the lake. Pike between six and eight kilos are caught from time to time during sport fishing in the lake.

Fish species
Pike, perch, roach, bleak, tench, ruffe, burbot and crucian carp.

Lake Broasjön
The Lake is a small, moderately nutrient-rich lake, located 6 kilometres northeast from Fagerhult. The lake is shallow and the bottom is mostly soft, with segments of stone and blocks. The water vegetation is moderate but above-water vegetation covers many of the shores and bays. The shoreline is fixed, with segments of blocks and rocks. The surrounding terrain is in many places enclosed by brushwood which makes the lake relatively hard to access from the shoreline. Otherwise the lake’s surroundings are occupied by coniferous forest.

The possibilities to fish from the shoreline in the 22-acres lake are best at capes and rocks on the south-west and east side of the lake. The lake has rich populations of pike and perch.

Fish species
Pike, perch, roach and burbot.

Älmten/Broasjön Fishing Area also offers fishing in Lake Bölsgöl, a small lake, hard to access due to the surrounding quagmire.
