Kalix SFK Metträsket Räktforsen

Kalix Sportfiskeklubb is based in Kalix, a municipality at the top of the Gulf of Bothnia where the central town of Kalix is located on the Kalix Riverbank, approximately five kilometers upstream from the river's outlet into the sea.
The club was formed in 1973 and has its own fishing waters in the form of a larger and a smaller lake containing char, trout, rainbow trout and grayling.
The lakes are located at a convenient distance just north of the town.
In addition, the club has fishing rights on a 7.5km stretch of the Kalix River, which includes Räktforsen.

Kalix River:
The stretch is located on the border between Kalix and Överkalix municipalities, approximately fifty kilometers upstream from Kalix, where anglers have the opportunity to catch salmon, trout, grayling and whitefish and also enjoy beautiful Norrbotten nature along an untouched river.
Mettresket:
The lake is a clear water lake with excellent water quality where the bottom consists of sand and gravel. There are also some areas with a coarser stone bottom. The fine visibility makes Metträsket an opportunity for anglers in winter. In summer there are a number of boats for rent that, among other things, make it possible to fish with "Long-tail fishing", a type of fishing that can sometimes be very rewarding. Trolling with a wobbler is another method, perhaps the one that gives the greatest chance of coming into contact with the lake's large trout, fish of 2kg and more. Even the char can be lured with a wobbler and it even happens that the large grayling bites. The fly fisherman also has a lot to catch in the lake.
Fishing from the rental boats or float rings is very pleasant and large parts of the lake provide space for fly fishing from land. Around midsummer, the sand dragonfly hatches and it is a festive time for the dry fly fisherman when the large trout take advantage of the large dragonflies, which in some years can appear so abundantly that the dry fly has difficulty asserting itself among all the real insects and then it happens that you are completely without fish. There is a small cabin with a fireplace that is open to the public all year round. There is a car road, which is plowed during the winter months, to the cabin.
A parking lot where you can also park a caravan is located 100 meters above the cottage. The road between the parking lot and the cottage is closed with a barrier, but it is possible to borrow a key if you have difficulty traveling on foot due to a disability or injury. There is also a handicapped-friendly pier below the cottage. The club's rental boats are also located there. There are two fireplaces at the cottage and a number more scattered around the lake. There are also two wooden windbreaks. The fish population in the lake is replenished annually. In the years 83-87, approximately 100,000 char fry were released into the lake.
The fish released today consist of trout, char and rainbow trout taken from the company's own fish farm, as well as grayling in the form of fry or single-year-olds. At the northern end of the lake there are two artificial spawning grounds that provide opportunities for self-reproduction for the char.

Only permitted for fly fishing. The lake is continuously replenished with fish, including from its own farm. Metträsktjärn is a pleasant lake with beaches well suited for fly fishing and also wading in several places. The lake is reached via a footpath from a parking lot located along the road to Metträsket. The path is clearly marked and easy to walk. The distance to the lake is approx. 500m.

Since the summer of 2003, the club has been renting a stretch of just over seven kilometres along the Kalix River on the west side of Sveaskog, where the lower half consists of the Räktforsen rapids. The stretch consists of rapids alternating with calm sections. It is primarily a very good sea trout water, but some salmon are also caught there. There are also grayling in the usual range. The Räktforsen rapids are included in the regular annual fishing permit, but a separate 24-hour permit is required for the stretch.
The club leases a 7km stretch of Kalix river west side, the side where the road E10 runs. The stretch holds both sections of fast and slow water and gives a fisherman the chance to catch Salmon, Trout and Grayling as well as Perch and Pike.
