About the water

Description

Lake Lygnern is located in Northern Halland and Marks Municipality. The lake is 20 km long and approximately 2.5 km wide, and at its deepest point, it measures 50 meters. In many aspects, the lake resembles Lake Vättern with its deep water, steep shores, and unpredictable behavior in unstable weather conditions. It is known for its excellent pike fishing and unique trout population.

The trout population in Lygnern has been threatened by, among other things, hydropower expansion and acidification in the inflowing streams. Today, thanks to extensive liming and persistent fishery conservation efforts, the trout population is on the rise. The population in the lake is original and naturally reproducing. The average size of a trout from Lygnern is around 1.5 kg, with fish weighing up to 7 kg also present. Other species worth mentioning are whitefish, perch, eel, bream, and burbot.

In Lygnern, fishing is primarily done from boats,(Rent a boat i Sätila). but there are also good opportunities to fish mainly for trout from the shore in several places. Lygnern drains through Lake Sundsjön to the sea, via Rolfsån, which flows into Kungsbackafjorden.
