Lake Risten is a long, narrow lake with steep, mountainous shores, but also with shallower bays and sections.
The name is said to come from the fact that the lake forms a “carve” in the mountain. The topography means that the surroundings are largely made up of forest, with quite a few settlements. In the southern part there are slightly longer stretches of pastureland. The lake is relatively deep – about 20 meters at its deepest point. Overall, this means that the lake is oligotrophic with good water quality.
The most important food fish in the lake are pike and perch, and there is a good occurrence of large perch. Lake occurs rarely. Smaller fish include, for example, snorkle. In addition to this, there are various species of whitefish; bream, roach, tench and rudd.
