Lake Spånen is located in beautiful mixed forest areas just outside Alvesta next to highway 25.
The lake is relatively shallow and has plenty of larger boulders. The lake has very clear water with a pH of 7.0. The lake's area is 265 ha and has an average depth of 3 m. The lake is a spring lake with no inflow. The lake's only outlet is via Lillå canal to Helige å and further to the main catchment area Mörrumsån. There is a rich birdlife in the lake.
