Public and private water Storsjön consists of two parts: Fishing license A fishing license is required for fishing that is not covered by free hand-held fishing. A common fishing license applies to all of Storsjön's fishery management areas. Allowed tools When fishing with a fishing license on private waters and when fishing on public waters, common regulations apply: Down otters, drag otters, trolling and drag rowing – maximum 10 lures per boat Bottom-set nets – maximum 180 meters , maximum depth 3 meters Bottom-set longline – maximum 100 hooks (may not be floated) Russians or cages (including vats, barns, etc.) – maximum 6 pcs . Stand hooks – maximum 10 pcs.
General rules for the entire Storsjön Minimum size trout: 45 cm. Caught trout under the minimum size must be released. Net fishing ban: May 15–June 15, throughout Storsjön. Crayfish fishing: completely prohibited throughout Storsjön. Marking: outstanding gear must be marked with the owner's name, address and fishing license number or property designation (for fishing rights owners). Bait fish: only fish caught in Storsjön or confluent water (up to the first migration obstacle) may be used as bait.
Common special rules within fisheries management areas Arctic char: may not be caught when fishing with hand gear (including trout, trolling and otter fishing) – must be released immediately. (Does not apply to Arctic char.) Trout: when fishing with hand gear (including trout, trolling and otter fishing), a maximum of 2 wild trout with adipose fins may be kept per day. No restriction for farmed trout with adipose fins cut off. Net fishing prohibited at stream outlets: within a 200 m radius of all stream outlets during: April 15–June 15 September 1–October 31
In tributaries to Storsjön, the following also applies: Inspection fee In the event of a violation of the area regulations, the fisheries management area (or its representative) has the right to charge an inspection fee. The amount of the fee varies depending on the violation ( max. 10% of the applicable price base amount ). Fishing without a fishing license Fishing without a valid fishing license is considered illegal fishing and will be reported to the police. Special rules within each fishery management area Storsjön-Östersund All fishing prohibited within a 200 m radius of: All fishing is prohibited year-round in all tributary watercourses, up to the first definitive migration barrier.
Storsjön-Krokom and Storsjön-Östersund Storsjön-Berg All fishing is prohibited in the entire Billstaån River and within a 300 m radius from the outermost tip of the harbor pier outside the mouth of the Billstaån River (see map point 5) . All phishing prohibited: south of the line from the cottages about 500 m north of Capri to the old timber shed in Galhammar (Y 69 65 125) (see map point 2)
