Lake Sjöatorpasjön and Lake Moasjön are part of the Mörrumsån water system. Lake Moasjön (approx. 25 ha) drains into Lake Sjöatorpasjön (approx. 150 ha) which drains into Lake Salen through the Skaddeån River. Several streams flow into both lakes, the largest inflow comes from Lake Älganäsasjön. The lakes are relatively nutrient-poor and the surroundings are dominated by coniferous forest with minor elements of cultivated land and meadows.
The lakes are relatively shallow and rocky with an estimated average depth of 1 m and a maximum depth of 3.5 m. Depth maps are available. At Hjortsberga community there is a beautiful promenade that follows the eastern shore of Sjöatorpasjön where there are also jetties, barbecue areas and information signs. The beaches are sandy and rocky but turn into a long sloping deep bottom.
