Lake Spånen is located in beautiful mixed forest areas just off Alvesta adjacent to highway 25.
The lake is relatively shallow and has plenty of larger boulders. The lake has a very clear water with a pH of 7.0. The area of the lake is 265 ha and has an average depth of 3 m. The lake's only drainage is via the Lillå canal to Holy river and on to the main drainage area Mörrumsån. There is a rich bird life in the lake.

Spånens FVOF
The FVOF of the shavings is mainly operated as an association of interest to monitor the lake biologically.
The association is tasked with providing good fishing care to the fishermen and the lake's recreational fishermen. The association is working to improve service and accessibility. Spånens FVO was formed in 1962 and was converted in 1988 to Spånens FVOF.
