The Almaån Upper Fishing Conservation Area Association welcomes you to fish in the upper part of the Almån, our stretch of the river starts at Finjasjön and extends down to Strömsfors and Brittedal (see map). The upper part is quite shallow and easily accessible, the lower part is more varied and in some cases more difficult to fish from land due to forests and bushes etc. Anyone who fishes must show consideration according to the right of access to residents by the river and for example not to graze built-up plots and not to go on sown arable land. Anyone who has a valid fishing license has the right to fish with a rod, not with any other fishing method. Landowners who are members of the association have the right to fish for crayfish and set out gear such as marmots.
The most common fish to catch in the river are perch, pike, roach and roach, but there are also trout, roach, tench, carp, chub, salmon etc. The Almaån River is famous for its chub fishing, it is only in the Helgeån water system that there are chub in Skåne. Chub are quite difficult to catch and not particularly numerous and are not a food fish, so we appreciate it if you release any chub you catch back. There are several protected fish species in the river, namely greenling, sandcreeper and eel, chub and wild salmon also have a certain protection value. All eel fishing in the river is prohibited by law. There are several protected mussel species in the river, especially the thick-shelled painter mussel, which is red-listed, so do not pick up or touch the mussels in the river. Everyone is also obliged to show consideration for animals and nature in and around the river.
In the Almaån as a whole there are two hydroelectric power plants, namely in Brittedal and Spånga, both have salmon ladders. There are several dams and mill ponds in the river, the uppermost one at Mölleröd regulates the water level of Finjasjön, further down the river there are Algustorps mill, Eka mill and Laxbro mill. A smaller number of sea trout and salmon migrate up the Almaån every year past all the obstacles and spawn in the river system. In the river but especially in the tributaries there is a smaller population of stationary trout, there are plans to try to remove migration obstacles in the tributaries to increase the population. If you catch something interesting in the river, such as a large fish or an unusual species, please contact us on the board. The board wishes you all good fishing luck and a pleasant nature experience.
