In order to improve the living conditions and regeneration opportunities of the fish in Björkån in the long term, a project has been underway since 2007 in collaboration with the County Administrative Board, Sollefteå Municipality and the fisheries management area. The aim is to recreate Björkån as it looked before the extensive river channel cleaning carried out in the 1950s and 1960s as far as possible. Obstacles to migration have been removed so that the fish can now migrate and spawn in a natural way. Stones that were excavated from the banks have been put back into the river. Old natural side channels have been opened. After the restoration, the river has become shallower and wider. Trees and stones in the river make sport fishing somewhat difficult, but in return we get a river that holds more and larger fish.
