Hjortesjön is located just outside Virserum towards Stenberga, in Hultsfred and Vetlanda municipality. Hjortesjön is also known in everyday speech as Lake Hjorten.
Hjortesjön is a humus-rich and oligotrophic lake with varying bottom topography. Deep holes down to just under 19 m deep are replaced by islands and shallow areas. The lake's shores consist mainly of stone and block bottoms.
The vegetation is sparse with small, sparse stands of reeds, water lilies and rushes in protected bays. The lake is mainly surrounded by coniferous forest, with elements of deciduous forest, arable land and pasture.
There is a boat ramp in Mörtefors, see map. It is okay to park at the boat ramp, remember to show consideration for residents and not too close.
