Gullspångsälven.
Welcome to fishing in the beautiful Gullspångsälven. Next to the power station, a salmon ladder has been built where the Gullspångsälven salmon go up to spawn in the fall. The ladder is upstream from the permitted fishing area.
Fishing is permitted in the Gullspångsälven from a line across the river 300 meters downstream of the mouth of the outlet tunnel at the power station in Gullspång to a line across the river at Kullen Lilla Årås.
The Gullspångsälven salmon (Gullspångslaxen) and trout are protected species and their capture is therefore prohibited.
The Gullspångsälven is an approximately 8 kilometer long river that flows from Lake Skagern to Lake Vänern. The Gullspångsälven forms the border between Värmland and Västra Götaland.
According to the Swedish Board of Fisheries, the red-listed fish asp spawns in the Gullspångsälven. In the Gullspångsälven there is also a type of salmon, the gullspångslax, which only migrates between the river and Lake Vänern. What has been done so far to preserve the unique strains of Gullspångslax and Gullspångsöring was not enough. Therefore, the project "Save the Gullspångslax" was started in April 2003.
The Gullspångsälven offers very good fishing for whitefish and also for trout. Accessibility is good, which also means that you can spin fish for pike and perch from land. Between August 15 and December 31, all fishing is prohibited in the Gullspångsälven. Fishing is prohibited all year round in the Lilla and Stora Åråsforsarna.
