Hästhultasjön är en tämligen opåverkad sjö trots lång mänsklig aktivitet. Sjön är omgivningen domineras av skogsmark. Sjön har en varierade botten topografi och maxdjup är cirka 11 meter. Främst förekommer gädda, abborre och mört i sjön.

Hästhultasjöns FVOF bedriver fisket i Hästhultasjön, Marsåsgöl, Andersbogölen, Hundsjögöl och Helvetesgölen sedan starten 1989. Föreningens syfte är att samordna fiskets bedrivande och fiskevården, att främja fiskerättsägarnas gemensamma intressen med beaktande av de föreskrifter som gäller för fiskets utövande samt att upplåta fiske.
