Ljustorpsån och Mjällån

Welcome to Ljustorpsån FVO. Both Ljustorpsån and Mjällån hold a fine population of sea trout. Around the Ljustorpsån valley there are also a number of ponds with stocked fish. The Ljustorpsån fishery management area was established in 1968 and covers an area of approximately 20,000 ha. The area mainly consists of Ljustorpsån between Lagforsdammen and Indalsälven and Mjällån from the parish border Ljustorp/Viksjö to the outflow into Ljustorpsån. Several smaller lakes drain into these rivers through streams that are to some extent fish-bearing. The Ljustorpsån is regulated via a dam and a power station in Lagfors. This is also the boundary for the fishery management area. The river then flows for approximately 30 km before reaching the sea via Indalsälven. 1.5 km upstream from the mouth, the unregulated Mjällån connects, which is also partly included in the fisheries management area. The most popular fishing is in May each spring when there is usually good fishing for both winter sturgeon and newly hatched fish. The rivers also offer good fishing for grayling and the occasional salmon is also caught. We will try to map the occurrence of salmon better through a new catch reporting system. Röjesjön, Aspen and Stavretjärnen offer fishing for wild pike and perch. Röjesjön offers a natural stock of mainly pike and perch. The ponds are home to stocks of introduced fish. Rainbow trout and trout mainly, but there are also stocks of char.
