NEW 2024 - free children's/youth cards
In 2024, we will test releasing free children's/youth cards that can be purchased by children and young people up to and including 16 years of age. Fishing cards for children and young people are limited to 3 per day and are available in addition to the 6 existing fishing cards. We have removed the requirement that a guardian/adult must be present when fishing and hold a fishing card. However, we recommend that a guardian/adult accompany the younger children and purchase a fishing card for them.
FISHING STREET 2025
The fishing stretch that will be available in 2025 is the stretch between the mouth of Tvärån in the Umeälven and the old railway embankment upstream of Rödäng, see also digital map.

This year's fishing opens on Sunday, June 1 and runs until Monday, June 30. Fishing licenses are available in the store from May 31st.

In Tvärån, catch reporting is mandatory.
Modern management
The Fisheries Management Association manages the fishing in the entire river from the confluence with the Umeälven up to the outlet of Kullasjön. Tväråns FVF has chosen a management model that should not harm the stocks, but should be based on sustainable fishing. We want to be a pioneer in sound management for the happiness of our guests. That is why we apply what is known as “Catch and release” so that the fish have the chance to survive, and the stocks can continue to grow and that more people have the chance to catch fish. That is also why we close fishing when temperatures start to rise in the river so that the fish do not risk being harmed. Welcome to fish with us! Expect wonderful dry fly fishing for large grayling.
Information about Tvärån-Kullabäcken
Tvärån is a small, centrally located river in the city of Umeå with the presence of grayling and a small population of migratory and stationary trout and pike. During periods, Västerbotten's landscape fish can also reside in the river. Like the majority of all our waterways, Tvärån has been heavily affected by human activity. The association has for many years actively worked to increase the quality of the water to benefit the fish populations. Previously, there were two definitive migration barriers in the river. The first barrier in the river was at Kvarnbron where a dam was replaced with a natural threshold to enable fish migration. The second migration barrier was at Forslunda gymnasium. Here, Tväråns FVF built a so-called circumnavigation (fishway in the form of a stream) past the dam so that the fish can freely migrate further up the river. Today, the association has succeeded in bringing back migrating sea trout and large grayling to the river. We are proud of our work, but there is still much to be done to further improve the conditions for maintaining a rich plant and animal life along the river. We hope that those of you who visit Tvärån will help protect the river.
