Furens FVOF was formed by decision of the County Administrative Board in Jönköping County on September 9, 1978. The main reason for the formation was that it was considered important to have joint management of the entire lake in order to be able to decide on fishery conservation measures.
The purpose of the association is to promote and organize fishing in Lake Furen and the affected part of Årån, and to allow fishing through the sale of fishing licenses to the public.
Furens fishery conservation area includes Lake Furen and part of Årån in Voxtorp and Rydaholm parishes, Värnamo municipality and Berga parish, Ljungby municipality. The border in the inlet Årån is formed by the road bridge associated with road 734 (Åsbro) and in the outlet an imaginary line drawn across Furen's mouth in Edån (Årån). Furens fishery conservation area extends over 1169 hectares.
The association includes 114 properties with fishing rights. The association's surplus has been used for fish stocking, fishing supervision and services in the form of boats, piers, boat ramps and gravelling of roads.
