The association was formed in 1987, by the fishing rights holders in the lake to coordinate fishing and fisheries management.

When it was formed, it was also decided that the association would grant fishing rights to the public, which is done through the sale of fishing licenses. In addition, the association works to maintain a good and original environment in Furusjön and its shore zones.
