Helige Å fiskevårdsområdesförening was formed in 1985.

Helige Å is the name of the part of the Mörrumsån main channel that is located between Helgasjön and lake Salen. Within Växjö and Alvesta municipalities. The height of the fall between Helgasjön and Salen is approximately 21 meters. Most of the river is calm but is broken by shorter stretches of current. The stretch includes several lakes, Bergkvarasjön, Kråkesjön, Gemlasjön and Furen before the outlet to Salen. Along Helige Å there is a widespread mobile outdoor life, mainly sport fishing and the canoe trail between Helgasjön and Getnögård in lake Åsnen.
