Såkens Sjösystems FVO was formed in 1989 after having existed as an organization for many years under the name Såkens Fiskevårdsförening. When the area was formed, the lakes Mellsjön, Frammesjön and Yttersjön were added.

Fishing license revenues go exclusively to fishery conservation measures.
