Tärna FVO is one of Sweden's largest fisheries management areas and was established in 1992.
Tärna FVOF works continuously to improve and manage the area. All income from fishing license sales goes entirely to fisheries management work. In recent years, the focus has been on the accessibility of fishing. Fishing spots and paths have been cleared and cleaned. The area has received new signage. The maps have been updated and the website has received a facelift.
TROUT STOCKS in our waters are of great importance to our attraction. Above all, the migratory form of larger trout constitutes one of our best and most important resources. In order to restore or maintain viable trout stocks, new fishing rules have been introduced in many watercourses in northern Sweden in recent years, including in Tärna FVO. This is called "window extraction". I.e. that it is permitted to catch trout between 35-45 cm and others under or over given dimensions shall be released back into the watercourses. In this way, both growing trout fry and larger trout mature for spawning are protected. The migratory form of trout, which is mostly born and raised in the smaller tributary watercourses, wants to return after its growth years in the larger lakes to its birth watercourse for (reproduction) spawning, and during certain periods also for foraging. Please read more in the PDF "information on fishing regulations" which is on the page.
