The association was formed in 1976 to, among other things, curb illegal fishing in the fish-rich lakes and gain control over fishing.
The fishery management area includes the lakes Garpen, Skiren, Övre Vrången, Vrångegöl with outflow, Yttre Vrången, Flatensjön, Melsjön and Bysjön as well as the Gårdvedaån down to the dam at Gårdveda power station. The association's activities include all fishing within the fishery management area. The association has 50 members and the fishing rights in the fishery management area are divided between the following parcels: Hultarp, Venskögle, Blackelid, Ärnaskögle, Salsnäs, Gårdveda, Botesgård, Flatekulla, Fagerbäck, Grönkulla, Flathult and Vrånganäs.
The regular fishery meeting is held annually at a time and place determined by the board, but no later than 1 April. Notice of the fishery meeting must be given in writing at least 14 days in advance.
