The Sommen fisheries management area has a goal to develop a long-term sustainable strategy for fisheries management in Lake Sommen by:

- Preserve and strengthen weak populations of unique and endangered species such as char and trout. - Adapt and develop fishing to an ecologically sustainable level. - Restore damaged water environments and limit external impacts. - Build local knowledge and expertise for future fisheries management. - Through long-term sustainable fisheries management efforts, contribute to increasing the attractiveness of the Sommen region, both for those living around the lake all year round, and for visitors interested in nature and culture.
