Fishing rights in the rivers of Skåne belong, with some exceptions, to the agricultural properties in the parishes along the river. For example, granting permission to fish in the river requires that all fishing rights holders agree on this. Likewise, it is difficult for individual fishing rights holders to implement fish conservation measures in the river.
Since the Kävlingeån-Löddeån is a well-known and fish-rich watercourse, it is also an attractive fishing water for a growing number of recreational fishermen. When it became increasingly urgent to create a joint management of the fishing in the river, the question of forming a fish conservation area was raised in the mid-1980s, mainly at the initiative of Kävlinge Municipality.
The Kävlingeåns-Löddeåns Fiskevårdsområde was formed on March 20, 1990. The area consists of all water in the main channel of the river from the mouth to and including the Lilla Harries parish border, and all fishing rights holders in the area are members of the association.
The members are called to an annual fishing meeting where, among other things, decisions are made about fishing rules, fishery management and prices for fishing licenses. A board is also appointed to handle the day-to-day work. All members have thus entrusted the management of the fishing in the area to the association.
The association's statutes state, among other things, that fishing shall be made available to the public, which is done through the sale of fishing licenses. It is further stipulated that all proceeds from this sale shall be used for fishery management, supervision or other measures that benefit the fishery.
