Lake Sommen - Applicable regulations for fishing license holders from 2023-01-01.

Fishing may not be conducted closer than 50 meters from a pier or built-up area unless special permission has been obtained from the owner. Fishing may not take place in such proximity to exposed nets or gear that these are damaged. A fishing license entitles you to fish in Lake Sommen according to current regulations with only hand-held fishing such as angling, ice fishing, casting rod, fly rod and drag. A maximum of two gears (lines or baits) per card or, when towing from a boat, a maximum of 4 fishing baits per boat for 2 or more people with a fishing license via an affiliated fishing club. Rod fishing is permitted. Fishing may not take place in such proximity to exposed nets or gear that these are damaged. A trolling license also entitles you to trolling with a deep rig or rod fishing. A maximum of six fishing lures may be used at the same time per boat. Surface otter fishing, capelin fishing and surface trolling with planerboards are not permitted. Participants on a boat that engages in trolling fishing must have a valid trolling fishing license, others must have a valid fishing license. We recommend: Single hook when trolling to minimize damage to released fish. Fishing license holders must respect and be informed about closed periods and protected areas for char and trout as well as bird protection within the Sommen water area. The fishing license or control number must always be carried on the fishing trip and can be shown upon request to the police, fishing inspector or water rights owner. When checking the fishing license, the gear must be taken up in order to facilitate control. The fishing license is personal but also applies to family members up to and including the age of 17. If the person is not in the presence of a parent, identification and the parent's fishing license must be shown upon request. Young people up to and including 15 years of age fish without a fishing license, but with the same regulations that apply to the lake.

Catching of char and lake trout is prohibited from September 16 to December 31 in the entire lake. Anyone who catches any fish of these species during the conservation period must release the fish. See recommendation below. Directed fishing for these species is prohibited during this period. During this time, all fishing is prohibited within the four conservation areas 1 - 4. The following minimum dimensions for catching apply, Pike: 40 cm, Lake trout: 65 cm, Zander: 50 cm, Char: 65 cm, ÅI: 60 cm. Caught char and lake trout that are not to be kept or that are below the applicable minimum dimensions should be soaked for a few minutes in a tub or similar before returning.

Prohibited fishing methods - Directed vertical fishing using echo sounder is only permitted in Sommen's western stream (Sommenfjärden, Boxholmsfjärden, Tranåssjön and Torpafjärden) with the restriction of Torpöbron in the south and Färjeläget in the north. When fishing, hook gear that is adapted to snatch the fish may not be used. The regulations do not prevent the use of a hook to salvage fish caught with other gear.

Catch restriction - Max. one salmonid fish per fishing license and 24 hours and max. 2 pike perch per fishing license and 24 hours. No restriction on other species. Control fee - Sommen's Fisheries Conservation Area will charge a control fee of 2500.- SEK for violations of the above regulations.

By purchasing a membership card / fishing license in one of the affiliated fishing clubs around Lake Sommen, you actively contribute to the care of the lake and its fish stocks. With your behavior in nature and on the lake's clean water, you decide for yourself how pleasant the environment should be. Keep nature clean. Be careful with FIRE. Do not make a fire on Sommens' beautiful rock outcrops. Check Sommens FvO's website for further information and updates. www.sommen.nu Welcome out on our unique lake!
