Lake Sommen - current regulations for fishing license holders from 2023-01-01

Fishing may not be conducted closer than 50 m from a pier or built-up area unless a special permit has been obtained from the owner. Fishing may not take place in such proximity to exposed nets or gear that these are damaged.

The fishing license entitles you to fishing in Lake Sommen according to current regulations with only hand gear fishing such as angling, ice fishing, casting rod, fly rod, drag and four ice fishing rods in the western lake. Max. two gears (line or bait) per card or. when towing from a boat, max. four fishing baits per boat for 2 or more people with a fishing license via an affiliated fishing club. Rod fishing is permitted. Fishing may not take place in such proximity to exposed nets or gear that these are damaged.

The fishing license holder must respect and be informed about closed periods and protected areas for char and trout as well as bird protection within the Sommen water area. The fishing license or card number must always be carried on the fishing trip and can be shown upon request to the police, fishing inspector or water rights owner. When checking the fishing license, the gear must be taken up in order to facilitate the check.

The fishing license is personal but also applies to the spouse/partner/cohabitant and to family members up to and including the age of 17. It is of utmost importance that the name of the person is stated in the comments field when purchasing the fishing license. If the person is not in the presence of a parent, identification must be presented together with the parent's fishing license upon request. Young people up to and including the age of 15 fish without a fishing license, but with the same regulations that apply to the lake.

The trolling fishing license also allows the right to troll with a deep rig or rod. A maximum of six fishing lures may be used at the same time per boat. Surface otter fishing, otter fishing and surface trolling with planerboards are not permitted. Of the participants on a boat engaged in trolling fishing, one person must hold a trolling fishing license, the others a valid fishing license. We recommend single hooks when trolling to minimize damage to released fish.

Catch of char and lake trout is prohibited from. September 16 to. December 31 in the entire lake. Anyone who catches any fish of these species during the conservation period must release the fish. See recommendation below. Directed fishing for these species is prohibited during this period. During this time, all fishing is prohibited within the four conservation areas 1-4.

The following minimum catch sizes apply

Pike: 40 cm, Arctic char: 65 cm, Pike perch: 50 cm, Arctic char: 65 cm, Eel: 60 cm.

Caught Arctic char and Arctic char that are not to be kept or that are below the applicable minimum size should be soaked for a few minutes in a tub or similar before returning.

Prohibited fishing method- directed vertical fishing using echo sounder is only permitted in Sommens western creek (Sommenfjärden, Boxhlmsfjärden, Tranåssjön and Torpafjärden) with restrictions Torpöbron in the south and Färjeläget in the north. When fishing, hook gear that is adapted to snatch the fish may not be used. The provisions do not prevent the use of a hook to salvage fish caught with other gear.

Catch limit- Maximum one salmonid fish per fishing license and 24 hours. Maximum two pike-perch per fishing license and 24 hours. No limit for other species.

Control fee- Sommens Fisheries Conservation Area will charge a control fee of SEK 2,500 for violations of the above provisions.

By purchasing a membership card/fishing license in one of the affiliated fishing clubs around Lake Sommen, you actively contribute to the care of the lake and its fish stock. With your behavior in nature and on the lake's clean water, you decide for yourself how pleasant the environment should be. Keep nature clean. Be careful with fire. Do not light a fire on Sommens' beautiful rock outcrops.
