Rules Kolbäcksån
Important changes compared to before:
- maximum of 2 rainbow trout fore one fishing license.
- We have extended the protection of aspen during the spawning period, all fishing is now prohibited downstream from Västerkvarn during the period April-May.
- You can now buy multiple fishing licenses per person to use multiple rods.
- The age for fishing in the company of a guardian has been changed to 10 years of age.
Rules for fishing licenses
- When fishing without a valid fishing license, a police report will be made for poaching, which can result in a fine and imprisonment for up to one year. In case of violation of the rules, a control fee will be charged, the fee for most offenses is 2000 SEK.
- The license fishing area consists of the lower part of the Kolbäcksån within the municipality of Hallstahammar, starting from Buren in the north, down to the outlet in Lake Freden (Mälaren) in the south, see map.
- Fishing licenses become active 30 minutes after purchase. This means that licenses must be purchased 30 minutes before you start fishing. Repurchases can only be made via iFiske, we do not repurchase fishing licenses that have been activated.
- You may only fish with one rod per fishing license, for fishing with multiple rods, multiple licenses can be purchased (max. 3 licenses per person). In winter, a ice rod or a maximum of 6 tip up rods for pike angling may be used.
- Roach huts or roach huts are not permitted. When fishing for smelt, nets may be used, otherwise net fishing is not permitted. Fishing with nets, rudders, pike cutters, otter boards and other mass fishing gear is prohibited.
- Children up to and including 10 years of age fish on a guardian's license provided that they fish themselves, cast out and reel in themselves. Children and young people over 10 years of age must have their own fishing licenses.
- Fishing in the locks is not permitted for safety reasons. The area around Strömsholm Castle (from the horse bridge to the end of the wall, see map) is not included in the area and all fishing is prohibited. The stretch from Trångfors (the rapids section) up to and including Sörkvarnsforsen to the bridge is not included in the fishing area for the license, but is private fishing.
Fishing rules
- Skantzsjön may only be fished by members, the fishing licenses for Kolbäcksån does not give access to fishing here. Ladugårdssjön is closed from April 1 to June 15 to protect bird life from disturbance. Fly fishing in the horse paddocks on the west side between the canal's inlet and the horse bridge in Strömsholm is not permitted.
- We are very proud about the aspen in our waters and it is protected from April 1 to May 31. During this period, all fishing downstream from Västerkvar's power station is also prohibited so as not to disturb the aspen's spawning. Only smelt fishing is permitted in that area during April-May. Keep in mind that the stretch downstream from the dam at Intra Mölntorp is also included.
- Pikes smaller than 40 cm or larger than 75 cm must be released to keep the population strong. A maximum of two pikes per fishing license and day may be retained.
- Zander smaller than 45 cm or larger than 70 cm must be released to keep the population strong. A maximum of two zander per fishing license and day may be kept.
- The trout is protected from September 15 to December 31 in order not to disturb the spawning. At other times, trout smaller than 40 cm or larger than 60 cm must be released to keep the population strong. A maximum of two fish per fishing license and day may be kept.
- The catfish is nationally protected and may not be fished for.
- Eel fishing may only be conducted three power plants upstream, that is, upstream from the Ålsätra power plant. In other parts, the eels are protected.
- All fish that are protected means that the fish may NOT be lifted out of the water but must be unhooked as quickly and gently as possible when caught. You may NOT fish directed at a protected species! Also remember that all fish that are to be released should be handled carefully so that it has the best possible chance of surviving.
