A fishery conservation area association may charge a control fee to a fisherman who is allowed to fish in the area but who violates the association's own fishing rules. The fee was introduced in 2011 when the Act (1981:533) on Fisheries Conservation Areas, abbreviated LOFO, was modernized (SFS 2010:1874).
The control fee is a new tool for maintaining fishery conservation rules and effective management. LOFO was established in 1981 and offers special opportunities and powers for fisheries management that are not found in other legislation. The purpose of the law is to coordinate management and to safeguard the common interests of fishing rights holders.
