Göta River - Sweden's largest river - was once widely famous for its wild nature, dramatic falls and rapids, and not least for its gigantic salmon and large trout.
The northern part of the river stretches from Vargön's power station in the north, to Strömkarlsbron-Malgöbron-Klaffbron in Trollhättan in the south.
In the riverbed itself, fishing is mainly focused on large pike, perch and zander, as well as large lake trout. The first-mentioned trio is found mainly along the calm-flowing sections, while trout is concentrated in the streams in Vargön, Stallbacka and Trollhättan.
Eels and roach are also found along the entire stretch. In the wide vegetation belts at Karlsberg, large quantities of carp thrive, to the delight of anglers!
The northern part also includes Karl's grave between Gropbron in Vänersborg and Brinkebergs kulle. An approximately 5 km long channel that is used especially for competitive angling.
