About the water

Description

Welcome to the center of the Vindelälven!

Gargnäs-Råstrands FVO is located in the eastern part of Sorsele municipality, about 200 kilometers from the sea. With about 200 kilometers towards the source of the river, you will end up with us in a scenic area with rapids and large lake areas. We have everything from the mighty rapids, the calm side flows, large lakes to the smallest pond and everyone has the opportunity to find their dream place within the area.

Vindelälven

We have a large area with about 25 km of river, of which nine are rapids and seven are rapids. Here there are really good chances for good fishing for salmon, trout and grayling.

Gargån One of the largest tributaries of the Vindelälven. With its source in Gargaure on the Norrbothnian border, it winds its way through woodlands and marshes down to the Vindelälven at Laxselet. Please note that fishing in Gargån requires a separate fishing license.

Over the years, Gargån has had a good reputation for fishing for large and large trout and lots of grayling. However, over the years, the river has been heavily affected by rafting and forestry. Major efforts have been made to restore the rafting and has now received a major facelift, which has proven very positive for the trout in the water. Our fly fishing route from Dammen in Jorbokksforsen down to Fallet in Trollforsen has in recent years produced lots of fine trout. Grayling fishing has also produced nice catches during the same time, but not the really big individuals. Grayling around 7-8 kg is a common fish, but over 1 kg is unusual.

Unfortunately, the unrestrained forestry along the watercourse has made the river terribly sensitive to precipitation. During dry periods, the river drops to almost catastrophically low levels and high water temperatures. During rainy periods, all the water comes at once and the river rises almost to spring flows. The best fishing period in the river is during early spring until mid-July at best. However, this depends entirely on how the weather plays out.

Staggbäcken A tributary to the Gargån that flows from Staggträsket and flows into the Gargån west in the village of Gargnäs.

A small watercourse that is very suitable for fly fishing. The stream is dominated by grayling fishing, but after restorations made in 2012 we hope to be able to re-establish the large trout population that once existed in the system.

The stream has small short streams and large sel. On the Selen, fishing is dominated by pike and perch, which can be really good. The upper part of the stream is probably the most fished over the years due to its accessibility.

The lower stretch is less used, but with a new "forest road" accessibility is better and maybe this is where you will find your new paradise.

S Sobbträsk One of our largest lakes in the area. Here we have invested in restocking fish in recent years. The lake contains trout, char, perch, pike, whitefish, brill, roach and roach.

The lake has the famous "Vulgatan" but so far has not yielded the fishing that you see in other places. Maybe it is during the summer fishing that you catch your dream fish right here?

Boats are available for rent for fishing in the lake. There is also an electric motor with battery to rent at Ica Gargnäs. You can get here via the gravel road between Gargnäs and Staggträsk. Fishing ban from stocking time (just before freezing) until January 1

Ljusbottentjärn Like its name, the lake has incredibly clear water and resembles a mountain lake. The water contains trout, char and the occasional perch.

By the lake there is a restored "huggarkoja" owned by the FVO. Here you can seek shelter in bad weather or perhaps for an overnight stay. The cabin has a large stove and simple bunks that can serve as beds.

Fly fishing from the shore is excellent and you can walk around the lake in a short time. You can get here via a minor road from the 363 at Orrkulla.

The fishing period in the lake is between the start of March (advertisement on Facebook) until the stocking time which takes place in late autumn.
