The stretch is open for fishing from 1/4 to 14/10 (Fishing is prohibited at other times)
Göta älv (Oscarsbron - Hängbron) is a unique and easily accessible fishing water in a scenic environment near central Trollhättan, near Strömslund and the power station. The stretch is about one kilometer long and here the Göta älv naturally forms a beautiful ravine with flowing water and with Åkerströms nature reserve downstream.
The water is also abundant with rainbow trout, pike, perch, zander and various types of whitefish.
The stretch starts at Oscarsbron and goes down to the suspension bridge. Oscarsbron is one of Sweden's most visited viewpoints and is filled with tourists when the water is released into the otherwise dry fall channel during the Fallen days.
Salmon fishing is centrally located, just over a kilometer from central Trollhättan, it is easily accessible both on foot and by car. There are good opportunities for parking next to the river.
Fishing is conducted mainly for salmon and trout during the summer period. Salmon fishing on the Nystigen Atlantic salmon begins to pick up around midsummer and the most common fishing methods are with spinning flies, spoon drag and angling with shrimp or herring.
A maximum of two salmon per person per day may be caught (applies to fish that are killed and kept). Trout and rainbow trout are not included in the quota. When two salmon have been caught and killed, fishing must be stopped. The minimum size for salmon is 45 cm, trout 45 cm and pike perch 45 cm. All fish that are smaller than these sizes must be released back unharmed.. Eels are protected throughout the area.
The minimum age for fishing is 16 years.
Applies both with and without the company of a guardian. Life jackets must be worn for all types of fishing (According to regulations from Vattenfall).
New fishing regulations for Zander and Pike from 2025
Zander Restriction: During spawning season, 25/4 - 31/5, Zander must be carefully released. The following applies at other times: Minimum size: 45 cm Maximum size: 65 cm Zander over 65cm must be carefully released. A maximum of 2 zanders per day within 45-65 cm may be kept.
