In Svartån record fish are caught continuously of chub, roach, bream and other whitefish. But here also lurk large pike and perch.
The river has produced Swedish records for both chub and roach (3.46 kg and 1.72 kg respectively). Over 450 fish caught here are on various record lists. There are records of bream of 3.8 kg and roach of over 1 kg. The size of pike and perch is not unique, but they can weigh up to ten and 1.5 kg respectively. Svartån flows from Sommen in the southern Östergötland highlands to Roxen in the middle of the plain, a height difference of over 100 meters.
At the beginning the river is rough and flowing, but over the large plain it flows calmly and dignified at the same time as the water becomes more and more nutritious. Östanbäck is located halfway between Sommen and Roxen along the 60 km long Svartån River. The local fishing license is valid for nine km of the river.
FISH SPECIES The most common fish species are pike, perch, roach, bream, chub, rudd, eel, roach, asp and ide. There are a total of 20 species in the river, including signal crayfish.
FISHING Fur, roach and chub are fished from February to midsummer and from August to November. Whitefish are mainly caught with bottom fishing. Spinning fishing for pike is good from March to October and for perch from May to September. Chub and pike also bite on flies. During the winter there are opportunities to fish if the ice holds. Crayfish are fished in August–September.
