Carp ("Karp") Overview

Carp - Cyprinus carpio

The carp is a freshwater carp fish originating from Asia. The fish is very popular among specimenmetare. It is usually greenish-gray or brass colored, compactly built.

There are many different variations of Carps as it mutates very easily. Some varieties are: Scales Carp, Koi carp, linear carp, leather carp, Magnificent carp, silver carp, Sotkarp, and Mirror Carp.


Derived from Asia and are now (as implanted) in Europe, Australia and the USA.

Size and growth

The carp eat everything from seeds, algae, insects and mussels. It is highly reproductive and female can lay up to a million eggs per year.
