The eel has a snake-like form with slimy skin, very small scales. The skin is gray-brown and lighter on the belly. Interestingly, the needle can actually walk on land and orient themselves to the nearest water.
The spawn and die in the Sargasso Sea.
It becomes sexually mature at 12-18 years of age, then migrates to the Sargasso Sea, and playing, and then return to Sweden.
It lives mostly in salt water, the fresh water live only females (except Kalmar).
The eel is endangered because of a dramatic decline of stock. According to some estimates, the stock is down to 1% in the 1970s.
The eel can get very old, there are facts that the needle can be almost 90 years.
Ålhonan can be 1.50 m long, males exceeding 51 cm.
