Gargnäs-Råstrands FVO is located in the eastern part of Sorsele municipality, about 200 kilometers from the sea. With about 200 kilometers towards the source of the river, you will end up with us in a scenic area with rapids and large lake areas. We have everything from the mighty rapids, the calm side streams, large lakes to the smallest pond and everyone has the opportunity to find their dream place within the area.
Vindel River
We have a large area with about 25 km of river, of which nine are rapids and seven are rapids. Here there are really good chances for good fishing for salmon, trout and grayling.
Gargan
One of the largest tributaries of the Vindelälven River.
With its source in Gargaure on the Norrbotten border, it winds its way through woodlands and marshes down to the Vindelälven at Laxselet. Please note that fishing in Gargån requires a separate fishing license.
Over the years, the Gargån has had a good reputation for fishing for large and coarse trout and lots of grayling.
However, the river has been heavily affected by rafting and forestry over the years. Major efforts have been made to restore the rafting and has now received a major facelift, which has proven very positive for the trout in the water. Our fly fishing stretch from Dammen in Jorbokksforsen down to Fallet in Trollforsen has produced large quantities of fine trout in recent years. Grayling fishing has also produced fine catches during the same time, but not the really large individuals. Grayling around 7-8 kg is a common fish, but over 1 kg is unusual.
Unfortunately, the uncontrolled forestry along the watercourse has made the river terribly sensitive to precipitation. During dry periods, the river drops to almost catastrophically low levels and high water temperatures. During rainy periods, all the water comes at once and the river rises almost to spring flows.
The best fishing period in the river is from early spring until mid-July at best. However, this depends entirely on how the weather plays out.
Staggbäcken
A tributary of the Gargån that flows from Staggträsket and flows into the Gargån west in the village of Gargnäs.
A small stream that is very suitable for fly fishing.
The stream is dominated by grayling fishing, but after restorations made in 2012, we hope to re-establish the large trout population that once existed in the system.
The stream has small short currents and large seles. On the seles, fishing is dominated by pike and perch which can be really good. The upper part of the stream is probably the most fished over the years due to accessibility.
The lower stretch is less used, but with a new "forest road" accessibility is better and maybe this is where you will find your new paradise.
S Sobbträsk
One of our largest lakes in the area. In recent years, we have invested in restocking fish here.
The lake contains trout, char, perch, pike, whitefish, chub, roach and roach.
The lake has the famous "Vulgatan" but so far has not produced the fishing that you see in other places. Maybe it is during the summer fishing that you catch your dream fish right here?
Boats are available for rent for fishing in the lake. There is also an electric motor with battery for rent at Ica Gargnäs.
You can get here via the gravel road between Gargnäs and Staggträsk. Fishing ban from release time (just before ice formation) until January 1st.
Light bottom iron
As the name suggests, the lake has incredibly clear water and resembles a mountain lake. The water is home to trout, char and the occasional perch.
By the pond there is a restored "woodcutter's hut" owned by FVO. Here you can seek shelter in case of bad weather or perhaps for an overnight stay. The hut has a large stove and simple bunks that can serve as beds.
Fly fishing from the shore is excellent and you can walk around the pond in no time.
You can get here via a minor road from road 363 at Orrkulla.
The fishing season in the pond is between the start of March (advertisement on Facebook) until the stocking event which takes place in late autumn.
