Umeälvens Nedre FVO

Children up to 13 years of age fish for free in the company of a guardian. The guardian must, however, hold a fishing license.
All rules regarding fishing must be followed by both children and adults.

The fishing license is personal and may not be transferred.
The fishing license must be presented at fishing inspections.
All fishing according to current freshwater regulations.

The number of fishing licenses is limited to 15 fishing licenses/day.
The fishing license is only valid for fishing from land on the special section Backenvattnet.
The ordinary fishing licenses in the lower fishing area of the Umeälven are not valid on the Backenvatnet.

In order to increase knowledge about fishing and possible catches, everyone who fishes on the stretch must report their fishing. With your fishing report, we can learn more about which fish are caught, how big they are, etc.

The limits of the Backenvatnet special section:
Downstream limit on the headland at Kyrkholmen.
Upstream boundary towards Baggböleören.

Fishing periods:

Trout
Fishing period: 1/1 - 14/9 and 1/11 - 30/11. Other times fishing ban.
Salmon
Fishing period: 15/4 - 14/9. Other times fishing ban.
Grayling
Fishing period 1/1 - 14/4 and 1/6 - 31/12. Fishing ban 15/4 - 31/5.

Methods:
Fishing from shore with hand gear, maximum one rod per person and card. Fishing from a boat is not permitted.
Only fishing with a single hook is permitted on Backenvatnet. All different types of fishing lures and flies must be fished with a single hook.
Reasoning: During periods, small (25-49 cm) and wild trout can nibble well on the hook. These must be returned to the river. So that they don't get hurt and so that restocking is easy, we have introduced the single hook rule on Backenvatnet.

Rotational fishing applies on Backenvatnet. A cast means a step downstream to make room for the next angler.
Justification: This rule is applied when there are many fishermen on the stretch. This means that everyone gets the chance to fish everywhere. After each cast you take a step downstream so that the next angler has a place upstream of you.

Catch Limits:
Trout
Minimum size 50 cm. It is only permitted to catch and keep farmed trout. The farmed trout lacks adipose fin. You may catch and dispose of a maximum of 3 farmed trout per fisherman per day. All wild trout, regardless of size, must be returned to the water with the utmost caution.
Salmon
Fishing ban. All salmon caught must be released when fishing on Lake Backenvatnet.
Grayling
Minimum size 35 cm
You may kill a maximum of four graylings per fisherman and day when fishing on Lake Backenvatnet.
Other species
Common sense applies when catching perch, pike and other species.

Other:
We recommend nylon rope. Braided lines never break down in nature and can be harmful to life in the river.
We recommend the environmental sink over the lead sink to protect the environment.
We recommend an electric motor instead of a petrol motor. Show consideration for shore fishermen.
Fishing supervision may take place both from a boat and from land. Please respect rules and boundaries.
