Malen's Småland fish. The moth occurs in fresh and brackish water, where it prefers nutrient-rich water.
Malen lives in both stationary and gently running water and will also visit the brackish water. It is a typical bottom fish are most active at night. It is a voracious predator that love to hunt in shallow water.
The species occurs in southern and central Sweden, mainly in the Emån water system in eastern Småland and the lake Båven Södermanland. Sparingly it occurs even in Möckeln in Kronoberg County and a number of smaller lakes in Småland and Södermanland.
The moth can grow up to five meters long and weigh over 180 kg (except in Sweden). Next to the European sturgeon is the Europe's largest freshwater fish, and in Sweden a moth at 129 kg caught in the river. It is a typical hot water fish playing first in the month of July.
