Welcome to Leksand - Insjön's Fisheries Conservation Area.

Rules for fishing license:
These may be resolved by fishing right holders within the fisheries management area. The proof is personal. Children under 16 fish for free with a guardian's fishing license.
A fishing license entitles you to fish with gear permitted by law, but not scissors and a maximum of 180m of nets on each occasion only in the waters where the fishing license is held. Only household fishing is allowed. In other waters according to rules for local cards. Outstanding gear must be clearly marked on both ends of the fishing gear. ATTENTION! At least 4-litre clear floats or flags with name, telephone number and property designation.

Rules for city cards:
These may be resolved by residents and owners of real property within the fisheries management area. The card is personal. Children under 16 fish for free with a guardian's fishing license. The card entitles you to fishing with a maximum of 2 hand tools and a maximum of 10 anglers/ice fishing rods per fishing card.
. Follow the fishing rules of the areas! In shared waters, only fishing with a hand tackle applies. See also under the heading restrictions on fishing.

Rules for Fishing Licenses/Others:
Fishing licenses can be redeemed by anyone. Children under 16 fish for free. The card is valid for fishing with one hand tool per person and a maximum of 10 fishing rods/ice fishing rods. In shared waters, only fishing with a hand tackle applies. See also under the heading restrictions on fishing

Trolling fishing

The fisheries management area does not sell a trolling card. Trolling cards are sold through Siljansbygden's fishing conservation association and are valid in Österdalälven and Insjön. Trolling in other waters within the fisheries conservation area is not permitted.:
Consider the boat traffic if you troll in the Österdal River!

Fishing restrictions:

• In the entire fisheries management area, pike longer than 100 cm and perch 40 cm must be put back carefully!
• Net fishing is prohibited from the priest's pier in Leksand to Tibble village cottage including Limsjön. Also ban on net fishing in the Sången area (Sången, Kvarntjärn, Benaren, Eksjön, Gysjön and Digertjärn) throughout the year.
• All fishing is prohibited in Limsjön and 50 m outside the mouth from the river out into Österdalälven, from January 1 to June 30.
• See posted signs!
• In Gysjön & Digertjärn, fishing may only be done with a fly rod from land. Ice fishing may be done with a hand tool (pimple rod). Fish as bait may NOT be used in Gysjön and Digertjärn. One trout may be caught per fishing opportunity (24 hours). Minimum size for trout is 50 cm. Fishing may be conducted within an area with a radius of 30 meters around the mouths of Gysjöbäcken, Hundtjärnbäcken and Digertjärnbäcken. Fishing is not permitted in Gysjöbäcken, Hundtjärnsbäcken and Digertjärnbäcken.
• No fishing is allowed in Bodaån, Sångån, , Mörkån and Rönnäsån from the mill dam and to the river's outlet in Insjön. In shared waters, only fishing with a hand tackle applies. In the Österdalälven from Morkarlön down to the raft bridge in Österfors, the water is divided and only one hand tool is allowed.
• In the Sången area, the minimum size for trout is 50 cm . In other waters within the area, the minimum size for trout and char is 40cm . In the Österdalälven, measure according to posted allowances and markings. For rainbow trout, no restriction.
• There are piers in Österdalälven at Leksand, Tibble, Bunk, Tunsta, Söder Rälta and Marielund which are also available for fishing.
• Marked fish are reported to the freshwater laboratory, 178 93 Drottningholm.
• All fishing in flowing water, with the exception of Österdalälven, is prohibited from 1 September to 31 December.
• Crayfish fishing allowed for fishing right owners and local residents with annual license and crayfish fishing license.
  • Crayfish fishing in the dal river applies from the provist bridge down to the Marielund bridge in Gagnef. The bridge forms the border.
  • Recommendations for crayfish fishing:
    • Make sure to have good visible floats that float! PET bottles are not recommended, as the buoyancy is too low. 5L cans or intended floats, type markers are recommended.
    • Name and telephone number must be on the floats.
    • Fairways must be free of floats so that boats can pass.
    • Those who fish in flowing water, use weights such as stones in the cages so that the cages remain.
  • Cages that do not comply with the requirements will be confiscated from the inspector. Help each other if you see floating cage floats.
• Shared water applies in the following places (does not apply to crayfish fishing):
  • Österdalälven: From the border of LIFVO (Marielunds bridge) to Gråda power plant. That means LIFVO can fish down to Gråda power plant and Gagnef can fish to Marielundsbron.
• No fishing is allowed in fish farms and at a distance of 50 meters from them.
• Temporary restrictions may exist and are then posted at affected waters!
• The card is not valid for fishing in Solbergatjärn, Sörskogstjärn and Antons damm.
• Scissor fishing is not allowed! Fishing with live bait fish is not permitted.
• Fishing license must be brought and presented on request! It is your responsibility to find out and follow the applicable regulations!
