The Lower Helgeån fishing conservation area is the area downstream of the hydroelectric power plant in Torsebro all the way down to the sea, a stretch of just over thirty kilometers (part of the Mjöån is also included, but fishing is prohibited here).
The passage of the Helge River across the Kristianstad Plain offers many calm stretches where both fish and fishermen can find their favorite spots. In addition to the river, there are also two shallow, vegetation-rich lakes, Araslövssjön and Hammarsjön. These periodically offer exciting fishing opportunities.
A tip is to try fishing with surface baits on a summer evening. But don't forget that both lakes are shallow and require patience to move around ( a lot of vegetation gets stuck in the propeller ).
The area is very species-rich and more than 35 different species have been caught in the river and lakes.
The most common fish you will encounter are bream, roach, perch, pike, roach, and tench.
But also rarer fish such as the wrasse, greenling, sandcreeper, river lamprey and catfish occur in the test fish carried out by the Kristianstads Vattenrike Biosphere Reserve on behalf of the County Administrative Board.
If you catch a moth or an eel on the hook, they must be released immediately as they are protected .
Handle all fish that are to be released as soon as possible. Minimum dimensions and conservation periods for other species can be found under info fishing, rules on our website: www.nedrehelgean.se
There are places to dock boats in several places in the area, with the ramps at Kavrö, Yllan and Yngsjö being the ones most people use.
If you are fishing from a private pier, be sure to check and follow the rules that the pier owner informs you about before you start fishing. Also, never leave fishing equipment behind after you have fished.
There are at least 36 documented fish species here, of which pike, perch, sea trout, salmon and pike-perch as well as various carp are the most interesting fish species in terms of sport fishing.
The purpose of a fisheries conservation area is to preserve the rich environments and ensure that the fish in the water thrive. To improve conditions for, for example, migrating trout and salmon, some cleaning is done in the rivers. The fisheries conservation association also helps to plant fish.
Anyone who wants to fish in the area has the opportunity to do so by purchasing a fishing license.
