Dorotea municipality is a municipality in Västerbotten County in the province of Lapland. The municipality also has small parts in Ångermanland and Jämtland. To the north the municipality borders Vilhelmina, to the east Åsele and to the south Sollefteå. As the municipality is one of the southernmost in Västerbotten, the municipality is sometimes called the southern gateway to Lapland.
Dorotea is part of a collaboration with Vilhelmina and Åsele with the goal of promoting fishing tourism. They are also very active in running projects to promote fishing.
