Dorotea municipality is a municipality in the county of Västerbotten in the province of Lapland. The municipality also has small parts in Ångermanland and Jämtland. To the north, the municipality borders Vilhelmina, to the east Åsele and to the south to Sollefteå. As the municipality is one of the southernmost in Västerbotten, the municipality is sometimes called Lapland's southern gate.
Dorotea is part of a collaboration with Vilhelmina and Åsele with the goal of promoting fishing tourism. It is also very active in running projects to promote fishing.
