Västerbotten County is Sweden's second largest county and occupies one - eighth of Sweden's area.
Like Norrbotten, Västerbotten offers a wonderful northern landscape with plenty of rivers, mountain lakes, coastal landscapes and mountain nature. Along the Gulf of Bothnia, it is a rather barren coastal landscape that then amounts to a more classic mountain environment in the western parts. Inland, nature is dominated by forests and bogs with an enormous number of lakes.
Västerbotten is located directly south of the Arctic Circle, which offers wonderful summer evenings with midnight sun and bright days.
Several well-known fishing waters flow through the county, such as the Ume River, the Skellefte River and the Vindel River. Vindelälven is one of Sweden's national rivers, which means that it is protected from expansion of hydropower.
The fish that can be found in Västerbotten are char, lake trout, sea trout, salmon, grayling, whitefish, pike, perch and more. In addition to the rich fish supply, Västerbotten is rich in other wildlife such as moose, bear, lynx, wolverine, wolf and golden eagle.
