Fishing in Storuman

Fishing in Storuman municipality is fantastic in all seasons!

Storuman has more than 2400 lakes and smaller watercourses and offers endless opportunities for fishing and outdoor activities, what about the Ume River for example? There is a wide range here, both for those who prefer to fish on their own and those who prefer to hire a guide. The municipality is large and has several different characters when it comes to fishing environments and fish stocks.

The eastern parts are dominated by the Ume River and the Juktån with a large number of lakes. The most common species here are grayling, pike and perch. The Juktån has undergone a major restoration in recent years after the rafting era and is expected to recover and develop in the coming years.

Pike fishing in this area can be very good at certain times. Stenselemagasinet and also other parts of the Ume River are very good with pike.

In the middle area of the municipality there is the Kirjesån River and a large number of lakes/ponds. Here the trout is starting to dominate over the grayling and most waters contain trout and char. Around Slussfors and Umnäs, fantastic fishing is offered both summer and winter for several species in parts of the Umeälven River, as well as in smaller waters.

In the western part of the municipality around Hemavan and Tärnaby, a very varied fishing is offered. In the mountains you can fish for trout and char in many of the county administrative board's granted waters. Some tips might be Tärnasjön, Ropen and the western parts of Överuman. In the valleys, fishing is managed by fish conservation areas, which grant most of the waters for fishing. Tärnaån, Jovattsån and Umeälve at Klippen are some hot flowing waters that must be tried. In this area, it is exclusively trout and char in the systems. Whitefish and really large Canadian trout are found in the lakes around Tärnaby and in Björkvattnet.
